Trace Start Point

This option sets a trace start point on the selected address in the File Editor pane or Memory pane of the RealView Debugger Code window. When you set a Trace Start Point, an arrow is placed in the left margin, next to the line of code you have selected.

This is unlike setting a trace range where such branches to memory are not captured. It is therefore recommended that you use a trace start and end point instead of setting a trace range if you want to capture information that is branched to within a specific program area.

image\inform.gif    If you do not set a Trace End Point in combination with a Trace Start Point, all-inclusive trace information is returned from the start point onward, and the amount of trace information returned is dependent on the buffer size that is currently set in the Configure ETM dialog.

When you set a Trace Start Point, an arrow image\trstart.gif is placed in the left margin, next to the line of code you have selected.

This option is not supported natively by the ETM v1.1 or below, but RealView Debugger uses the ETM state machine, if available, to support a limited number of start and end points, either:

  • A maximum of four start points and two stop points

  • A maximum of two start points and four stop points.

In this case, the limitation option used by RealView Debugger depends on the type of tracepoints you want to set. For example, if you are using ETM v1.1 or below, and set three trace start points, the first of the two bulleted options above is assumed. That is, you can set up to four start points, but are limited to two stop points.

This option is not available for connections via the Simulator Broker.
