If you select this option, the debugger resets the target processor and peripherals on the board. If possible, a hardware reset is performed, otherwise, the reset is performed in software, leaving the processor in a state that is as close as possible to the hardware reset.

Variables are not reset to their original values because memory is not reinitialized.
