How do I map memory by amending the board file?

If you want to set up a memory map that is automatically used for a target, you must do it in a board file. You can either reference a board/chip definition file, or you can change the memory definition in the Advanced Information section of the target configuration.

A detailed description of amending connection properties is provided in the RealView Debugger v1.8 Target Configuration Guide. The following example describes the procedure for specifying a memory map for a custom target MY_TARGET.

1.   Open RealView Debugger without connecting to a target.

2.   Select Connection Properties… from the Code window Target menu to display the Connection Properties window.

3.   In the left pane, expand the CONNECTION=MY_TARGET group down to Default in the Memory_block settings:

4.   Right-click on Default under Memory_block to display a context menu.

5.   Select Make New….

6.   Enter a name for the new entry. In this example it is My_Target_Memory.

7.   A new group is created, identical to the Memory_block Default:

8.   Click on the My_Target_Memory line to see these settings in the right pane:

9.    Right-click on Start, and select Edit Value from the context menu:

10.   Enter a value for the start of the memory block. In this example, enter 0x0000.

11.   Right-click on Length, and select Edit value from the context menu.

12.   Enter a value for the length of the memory block. In this example, enter 0x20000.

13.   You can change other values in the same way, but this example keeps the default values.

14   Right-click on Description, and select Edit value from the context menu.

15.   Enter a suitable description. In this example, the description is Custom_memory.

The final view of the My_Target_Memory in the right pane looks like this:
