Setting breakpoints in RTOS applications

You can set either an HSD or an RSD breakpoint:

HSD (Halted System Debug) breakpoint

This type of breakpoint stops the processor and halts all threads. You can only set an HSD breakpoint when the processor is stopped.

image\lamp.gifIf you are running in RSD mode when the HSD breakpoint triggers, RealView Debugger changes into HSD mode.

RSD (Running System Debug) breakpoint

RSD breakpoints are set via the Debug Agent and therefore require RSD to be enabled. They stop only selected threads and not the processor. There are three types of RSD breakpoint:

System Breakpoint

Thread Breakpoint

Process Breakpoint

To set a breakpoint from the File Editor pane of the Code window:

1. Right-click in the gray area to the left of the code.

2. Select the relevant option from the context menu:

Set System Break

Set Process Break (not available at this release)

Set Thread Break

You can also set a breakpoint from the Set Address/Data Break/Tracepoint dialog, or from the Break/Tracepoints pane.
